Description:

Come learn the inspiring history of the men who built Palo Duro Canyon State Park in the Civilian Conservation Corps. There will be a half-hour presentation featuring the history of the CCC, followed by a hike down the CCC trail which was used by the enrollees to get to their daily work sites.

Prepare: Dress for the weather and wear good hiking shoes or boots. Bring plenty of water to drink - at least 2 liters per person is recommended. The hiking trail is only moderately difficult, but it does feature a lot of downhill walking. Those with knee or other joint problems may find it difficult. Visitors are welcome to only attend the presentation if they do not wish to go on the hike. Friendly pets are welcome on the hike, but they must be leashed, they must have their own supply of water, and they are not allowed inside the visitor center before the hike.

Meet: At the El Coronado Lodge visitor center, located one half mile inside the park entrance. Plan to arrive at the park gate by 2:30pm to ensure that you make it to the Visitor Center on time.

Fees: Regular park entrance fees ($5 per adult, children 12 & under are free). No charge for this program.
